Part of the History Channel's mission is to raise awareness about the vitality of history, promote history education, and encourage the preservation of historic archives and sites. Professional historians have helped the channel achieve its goals. The History Channel, for example, features a debunking session, hosted by Sander Vanocur, when it shows Hollywood's historical movies and miniseries in Movies in Time. Recognizing that many members of the public depend on Hollywood's interpretation of the past, the History Channel gives historians a chance to respond to the silver screen.
Every Sunday morning, starting in October, the History Channel will feature History on Campus, a series of lectures produced at different universities and colleges around the country. Although the History Channel is aimed at a general audience, a number of its programs are excellent resources for senior high school and undergraduate history studies.

One of the channel's best documentaries, Blood and Iron , a history of the German war machine, will premiere at 8 p. It is an international production, using German archival footage that has not been seen before in North America. Not your typical history documentary, Secret Wars Uncovered takes a deep dive into some of the most controversial, covered up and shocking military operations since World War Two.
It has some starpower making its case — Jeff Daniels serves as narrator, while Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin produces the show. Brand new special episodes perfect for longtime fans and newcomers to Oak Island alike, each episode will feature in-depth discussions of the titular Oak Island and the legendary treasure supposedly hidden on its shores.
