Oct 27, Lately I've been getting that Unreal Tournament itch, because games like Modern Warfare remind me how much I truly love fast-paced shooters where everyone starts with the same weapons and abilities and ranks aren't a thing, unlike said game.
I realized I had UT3: Black in my Steam library, and decided to give it a go, if only just to see what would happen. Initially I was greeted with a login error when trying to connect to multiplayer mode. After some research, it was because my old GameSpy credentials weren't working, because, well, GameSpy no longer exists.
Some quick Googling led to me discover that Epic had patched out GameSpy with their own server browser, and that the Steam version was already updated. All I had to do was create a new account in the game and I should be able to play as if GameSpy never existed at all. Easy enough. I did that and logged in and saw a fair number of servers up and running.
Very cool! My excitement began to fade however, after some servers wouldn't connect, some would connect but fail to load the custom assets, and the ones that did connect worked fine, but there were only bots to be found in them, even though the server browser showed players in the server with bots disabled in the server settings.
I remembered really hating that about UT3. I tried a few more servers, and the results were the same. No humans to be found on any server that would connect. I had an itch to scratch, however, and I was determined to get the job done, so I I really miss it terribly. As one final straw, I decided to check out the abandoned Unreal Tournament that is still on the Epic store for some reason.
That was really awesome - human players are still playing that one, the classic gameplay is still intact, and the graphics looked great, but it only rubbed salt in the wound at the end of the day, because that version of UT will never see the light of day, which is a real shame. So here I am on Era venting my sad, sad story of UT heartache. Can anyone else relate? Oct 26, 10, Slowly witnessing the death of the Dystopia community comes to mind. Rygar 8Bit Member.

Servers are Official Epic servers 2 and 3. I've stopped checking if WAR populates at any other times. Page of 1. Filtered by:. Previous template Next. Fuzzy Adam. I had UT3 a while back and traded it in, but now I want it again. But does anybody play on xbox live anymore or will it take me ages to find a match each time?

I would characterize a game released in the past two years intended for online multiplayer having fewer than people online concurrently as a complete failure. Wiawyr View Profile View Posts.
Older versions of UT had better bots. These are just very poorly coded, no randomness, just blatant aimbotting to an impossible degree. Seeing a bot with a link gun within range of its alt-fire means you're already dead, watching bots take out redeemers from across a map with the enforcer within a second of launching it, having bots land perfect shock combos while dodging in and around structures is silly, and that's just poor design.
